NEWS: Being - the movie

5/12/2017

Being the Movie
Thrilled to be on the writing team for the feature film BEING, now in pre-production. Directed by Douglas C. Williams, staring Lance Henricksen (Aliens, Near Dark, Millennium), and Robert John Burke (Robocop 3, Law & Order SVU, Thinner).
The story all takes place in one night on a farm on the outskirts of a small town in the mountains. A mysterious, bright burst of light explodes from inside the barn, knocking out the power. The drunken gathering going on inside of the main house comes to an abrupt halt. There is a creature they will discover in the barn. Not human. Something they do not understand. And when the beliefs of the weak and fearful are threatened, they turn on each other...

Nothing is more real. Nothing is more scary. Than hate...

Transitions 102
Short story COMMAND PERFORMANCE, by Matthew Quinn Martin
Issue102 explores the urban night and the urban underground, from Kinshasa to Dakar to Manhattan. Students walk miles to the nearest streetlamp; b-boys and taggers roam the subways. Another world of desire is illuminated in the darkness. Those with electricity are free to write all night—to philosophize about human rights, recent economic history in Africa, and machine politics. It is only in its absence that we realize we owe ourselves to circumstance, that our limits are our landscape.

Matthew Quinn Martin
Island profile: Matthew Quinn Martin, bookish man with a penchant for horror
When Matthew Quinn Martin was very young, he was terrified by an odd pattern in the grain of the wood paneling in his house.

In his 4-year-old imagination, the grain formed the face of Frankenstein. Although his mother taped an envelope over the face, it spooked him for years.
